A strawberry matcha latte turns a few simple ingredients into a beautiful drink: sweet strawberries at the bottom, creamy milk in the middle and green matcha on top. It is easy to make at home, and you can adjust the sweetness and strength to your taste.

What Does Strawberry Matcha Taste Like?
Matcha has an earthy, slightly grassy flavour that works well with creamy milk and ripe strawberries. The fruit softens the taste without hiding it. Keep the layers for a pretty first look, then stir before drinking so every sip has a little of everything.
You do not need a café setup. A small whisk or handheld frother, a bowl and a tall glass are enough. A fork works for mashing soft strawberries.
Easy Strawberry Matcha Latte Recipe
Servings: 1 large glass
Preparation: About 10 minutes
Ingredients
- 100 g ripe strawberries, washed and hulled
- ½–1 teaspoon plain matcha powder
- 40 ml warm water, about 70–80°C
- 150–200 ml cold milk or unsweetened plant milk
- A handful of ice
- 1–2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup, optional and adjusted to taste
Use plain matcha rather than a presweetened matcha latte mix. Begin with ½ teaspoon if you prefer a gentler flavour.
Method
- Prepare the strawberries. Mash them with a fork for a little texture, or blend into a smooth purée. Spoon into the bottom of a tall glass.
- Whisk the matcha. Sift the powder into a small bowl. Add a splash of the warm water and mix into a smooth paste, then add the remaining water and whisk until smooth and lightly frothy.
- Adjust the sweetness. Taste your ingredients. If you want honey, dissolve it in the warm matcha; maple syrup can also be stirred in. Leave it out if the berries are sweet enough.
- Add the ice and milk. Place ice over the strawberry layer and slowly pour in the cold milk, leaving room for the matcha.
- Finish with matcha. Pour it gently over the ice or the back of a spoon to help keep the layers separate.
- Stir and enjoy. Mix the layers before drinking. If using a narrow straw, choose smooth strawberry purée.
Tips for a Smooth, Balanced Latte
- Choose ripe strawberries. Sweeter berries need less added sweetener.
- Whisk separately. Adding dry matcha directly to cold milk often leaves lumps.
- Avoid boiling water. Warm water helps preserve a gentler flavour; follow your matcha packet if it gives a specific temperature.
- Leave space to stir. A slightly larger glass makes it easier to combine the layers without spilling.
Which Milk Works Best?
Dairy milk gives a familiar creamy finish. Oat milk can add body, soy milk offers another creamy option, and almond or coconut drinks change the flavour. Choose one you enjoy and adjust the amount to suit your glass. Use unsweetened milk if you want more control over the sweetness.
Can I Use Frozen Strawberries?
Yes. Thaw them in the refrigerator so they are easy to mash, and follow the packet’s preparation instructions. If the label requires heating, do that first and cool the fruit before assembling the drink.
Does Matcha Contain Caffeine?
Yes. The amount depends on the matcha and how much you use; check the packaging for product guidance. Choose a smaller amount if you prefer a lighter drink, and keep caffeine in mind when deciding when to enjoy it.
Can I Make It Ahead?
The assembled latte is best enjoyed fresh, while the ice is cold and the fruit tastes bright. To save time, prepare the strawberry layer separately and keep it covered in the refrigerator at 4°C/40°F or below, then whisk the matcha and assemble when ready.
